Statement on the Death of Congressman John Lewis

The Stennis Center for Public Service (Stennis Center) mourns the loss of United States Representative John Lewis and extends our deepest condolences to the Lewis family.

Congressman Lewis represented the highest ideals of public service in America. We remain grateful for his commitment to public service and to the Stennis Center as a member of our Board of Trustees for almost 20 years (1993-2010).

Congressman Lewis’ life of public service is an inspiration to all who work to make life better for others and is an example for young people everywhere who wish to enter public service to expand opportunities for all of our citizens.

The life of Congressman Lewis will forever be a beacon of light for all who seek to make America stronger and better through public service.
