On March 13, 2019, Senior Stennis Congressional Staff Fellows participated in a panel as part of the government-wide orientation for new members of the career Senior Executive Service (SES) and SES equivalents. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management, through its Federal Executive Institute and in conjunction with the White House Presidential Personnel Office, conducts the SES orientation twice each calendar year. Members of the SES serve in key positions just below the top Presidential appointees and are the primary link between these appointees and the rest of the Federal workforce. The event included more than 230 new career SES and SES equivalents from 20 Federal departments and agencies.

Senior Stennis Congressional Staff Fellows participated in a panel titled, Congress and Senior Federal Executives: A Conversation with a Panel of Senior Stennis Congressional Fellows. The purpose of the panel was for congressional staff leaders to better assist newly minted SES members in their interactions with the legislative branch. Accordingly, panelists shared their experiences on Capitol Hill, including the differences and similarities between the U.S. Congress and the executive branch. The panelists also provided examples and tips on how to build and use relationships with congressional staff members to make progress on agency priorities and concluded with an audience question and answer session.
