Public Service Review: Summer 2022

Public Service Review features informative and insightful stories from young voices from across the nation who share in their own words their experiences, insights, hopes, and dreams as they immerse themselves in the public service sphere. This edition of Public Service Review introduces you to eight new voices who explore the challenges and rewards of public service, from the halls of Congress to the alluvial floodplains of the Mississippi Delta to war zones in Afghanistan. The commitment of these young leaders to do their part to make both our nation and the world better is truly inspirational. We are honored to share their stories and are optimistic about our nation’s future with such devoted service leaders at the helm.

This edition introduces you to young leaders like Disha Jhaveri and MAJ Matthew Romanowski, whose commitment to public service knows no geographic bounds. Disha shares her story of what motivates her to make a positive health impact in one of the poorest regions in the nation. MAJ Matthew Romanowski shares how some of the most important events in human history led him on a pathway to public service.

Lastly, this edition introduces you to six new former congressional interns as part of our “Reflection from a Congressional Intern” series. In this series, former congressional interns reflect on their time on Capitol Hill and in district offices. This edition features Alexandra Schindewolf, a former intern in the Office of U.S. Representative Ken Buck, Ava Goble, a former intern in the District Office of U.S. Representative Kaiali’i Kahele, Ben Savercool, a former intern in the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations, Caroline Rykard, a former intern in the Office of U.S. Representative Earl L. “Buddy” Carter, Diana Grechukhina, a former intern in the Office of U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, and Drew Ficociello, a former intern in the Office of U.S. Representative Cindy Axne.

Public Service Review is a place for talented young leaders to tell their stories in the hope that readers will benefit and learn from these reflections, encouraging others interested in public service. We hope these stories will inform and inspire readers of different perspectives as we all work toward a better future.
