The application process is now open for 2019 Mississippi NEW Leadership.

Mississippi N.E.W. Leadership is a program hosted by Mississippi University for Women and the Stennis Center for Public Service. The program is designed to educate, empower, and encourage college women to become politically active and to take on leadership roles. The Mississippi N.E.W. Leadership program is an intensive, non-partisan, six-day residential program that will take place May 19-24, 2019 at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS.

During the program, students will meet women leaders, learn about women in American politics, and develop and practice leadership skills through panel discussions, workshops, and hands-on projects. Participants earn 2 college credits in leadership that may be transferred to the institution they attend.

Mississippi N.E.W. Leadership is supported by Mississippi University for Women and the Stennis Center for Public Service. Housing, food, and all program materials are provided for the full five days of the program. There is no direct cost to the students.

Mississippi N.E.W. Leadership is open to undergraduate students enrolled in any Mississippi college or university and Mississippi residents enrolled in out-of-state schools. We are committed to including women from diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, racial and educational backgrounds in each Mississippi New Leadership program. We strongly encourage women of color, nontraditional college women, and students majoring in fields outside political science to apply.

Mississippi N.E.W. Leadership participants are expected to attend all institute sessions and live in the residence halls during the entire program May 19-24, 2019. In completing the application, you acknowledge that you are aware of these requirements and agree, if accepted, to make every effort to meet this commitment.
